Backspinz Music Academy is a music education program for young creators ages 9-22.  While teaching youth entrepreneurship and financial literacy through MUSIC Backspinz focuses on self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills.

Backspinz believes that these areas are essential in social and emotional growth.  These focus areas are infused in the day over day music education classes at Backspinz and the evidence-based curriculum The Art of Peace-Making through Understanding Conflict Resolution.

The Culture's state-of-the-art recording hosts national and international musicians who visit HBCU and low -to moderate-income (LMI) community locations to record original music co-produced, written, recorded, engineered, and mastered by students interested in career pathways within the cultural arts industry.

PRODUCTION LAB /Classroom

We believe that the new generation of creatives thrive in spaces where they can individually work on creative projects-one where they can throw on a pair of headphones and create digital works of art using the latest technology in music and video production software.  But the learning doesn't stop there, once students have time to create their own music they are challenged to share their projects with their peers, where they both learn to receive constructive criticism and learn the value of critiquing others' work.

Our Music Production Lab / Classroom provides our students with this advanced academic experience. Students enrolled in the Backspinz Music Academy & The Culture Studios program have the opportunity to strengthen  their computer literacy skills while producing original music using industry standard equipment such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Soundtrap, MPC Beats, Fruity Loops, Garage Band as well as industry standard DJ & Production equipment and digital technology under expert instruction of partner artist mentors.

WHY DONATE ?

Research Shows that Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together.

Research shows that music training boosts IQ, focus and persistence. The value of incorporating music into a child's education cannot be understated. There is a heap of incontestable research showing that an education rich in music improves students' cognitive function and academic performance.

Music: provides a way for young creatives to express and explore their feelings and emotions.

Learning Music: can also improves how the brain understands human language, which can help students learn a second language.

Listening skills: Music involves listening to yourself and to the rest of the ensemble. Musicians need to hear tempos, dynamics, tuning, and harmonies. This helps auditory development in the brain.

Math Skills : When a music pupil has spent time learning about rhythm, he has learned to count. He is not counting numbers, per se, but he is most certainly using logic to count out the rhythms and bars, and working his way methodically through the piece. Many musical concepts have mathematical counterparts.”

Creativity: Employers identify creativity as one of the top five skills important for success in the workforce (Lichtenberg, Woock, & Wright, 2008).
